COMBINED LINE AND COPY EDITING

A detailed, sentence-level edit that focuses on both how your writing reads and how well it holds up technically.

I work through your manuscript line by line, improving clarity, flow, and readability, while also correcting grammar, punctuation, and consistency. That might mean tightening sentences, smoothing awkward phrasing, or picking up on small things that interrupt the reading experience.

I offer two levels of editing within this service, because not every manuscript needs the same degree of intervention.

THE STANDARD EDIT

A thorough line and copyedit for manuscripts that are already structurally sound but need professional refinement.

This is a sentence-level edit focused on clarity, flow, readability, grammar, punctuation, consistency, and word choice. I'll tighten anything that's unnecessarily wordy, smooth out awkward phrasing, and make sure your sentences are doing their job without losing the voice you've developed. It's best suited to manuscripts where the narrative voice is already established and the sentence construction is generally working well. While I'll make changes where they're needed, this level of editing isn't designed for extensive rewriting, ongoing voice development, or substantial restructuring of paragraphs and passages – that's where the Immersive Edit comes in.

Best suited for manuscripts that are already working well at sentence level but need that final layer of polish.

THE IMMERSIVE EDIT

A deeper, more intensive edit for manuscripts that need more hands-on work at sentence and paragraph level.

This might include restructuring sentences, strengthening or refining voice, improving pacing, reducing repetition, deepening emotional engagement, or reworking passages where the prose isn't yet achieving the effect you're after. It can also mean looking more closely at areas where the writing relies too heavily on telling, feels overwritten or repetitive, loses its voice, or where the word choice, tone, or flow isn't quite working as it should.

The aim is still to preserve your voice. The difference is simply the amount of intervention your manuscript needs to reach its full potential.

Best suited for manuscripts where the prose needs more substantial shaping alongside the usual line and copyediting.

WHICH EDIT DOES MY MANUSCRIPT NEED?

You don't need to work this out yourself.

Before I quote for your project, I'll ask you to send me a sample chapter – two if your chapters are particularly short – ideally from somewhere in the middle of your manuscript, along with your total word count.

I'll use the sample to assess the level of editing your manuscript needs, looking at things such as sentence construction, clarity, flow, pacing, voice, consistency, and how much hands-on revision the prose is likely to require.

I'll then let you know which level of editing I recommend and give you a clear, tailored quote before you decide whether you'd like to book.

This means you're paying for the level of work your manuscript actually needs, rather than trying to choose between editing packages based on a description alone.
